My favorite fish here in Curacao.
The silvery predatory fish known as the "Silver King" is a sought-after catch for many anglers due to its strength and spectacular leaps. This prehistoric fish, which can grow up to 2.5 meters long, lives in coastal waters and harbors of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. These fish can also draw oxygen from the air with their primitive lung system, making it all the more impressive.
I've been fishing for tarpon here in Curaçao for several years now, and I can safely say they're not the easiest fish to catch. I usually manage to provoke bites, but ultimately getting them into the boat requires a bit of luck, muscle power, and quick reflexes.
But over the years of experience I've built up in tarpon fishing here in Curacao, it's pretty much clear: dead bait and live bait are hands down superior to all the artificial baits currently available on the market.
That's why I mainly fish for tarpon with dead bait and live bait.
What does our day look like?
We start early in the morning and look for live bait. This can range from small baitfish to larger baitfish, whatever is available at the time. If we have live bait, we'll use it, either drifting or slowly trolling. It depends on the type of baitfish we have.
If we don't have live bait, we use dead bait. I always carry this with me when we go tarpon fishing. We do this statically from the boat. It's a simple but very effective way to fish for tarpon. Almost all my records have been caught this way.

Keep this in mind. Over the years, I've told you the best months for tarpon here in Curaçao are from August to the end of December. It does vary a bit, though. Of course, this doesn't mean it's impossible during other months.
